THINGS TO DO In Franschhoek & the surrounding area

1. Visit wineries
It’s probably obvious, but visiting wineries is easily the most popular thing to do in Franschhoek. Some of the most popular wineries in the area include Babylonstoren, Haute Cabriere, Vrede en Lust, Boshendal, La Motte and Anthonij Rupert.

A popular option at many wineries is to book a picnic, also available at our wedding venue.

2. Ride the wine tram
The wine tram is an easy way to get around the local wineries with a hop-on hop-off model. Be ready to start early, with trams leaving from 9:15 AM! As it will be peak season we recommend you book tickets in advance to avoid it selling out.

3. Visit breweries
If wine isn’t your thing, there are also a few breweries in the area that you can visit. These include; Hey Joe Brewing Company, Tuk Tuk Microbrewery and The Franschhoek Beer Company.

4. Franschhoek town
There is one main street in Franschhoek which has pretty much everything you would need: supermarkets, café’s, restaurants, and shops.

5. Franschhoek View Pass
A 10-15 minute drive away is the a great lookout spot that’s gives you a fantastic view over the Franschhoek Valley and the chance to see the whole landscape of the place you’re staying.

4. Hiking trails
There are plenty of hiking trails in the area to choose from. Two popular trails include Uitkyk Trail and Du Toitskop Look Out Ridge.

5. Franschhoek Motor Museum
The Franschhoek Motor Museum offers 100 years of motoring history with a unique collection of vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles to view (by appointment only).

8. Surrounding towns
The towns of Stellenbosch and Paarl are both within 30 minute drive from Franschhoek, also having plenty of famous wineries and restaurants to explore.

Frequently Asked Questions FAQ

What should I wear? Is there a dress code?

The dress code for our wedding is semi-formal/cocktail attire. Please bear in mind that it will be hot!
Parts of the wedding will be on grass/gravel, so please choose your footwear accordingly. Ladies – opt for a thicker/block heel or wear heel protectors for your comfort.
If you would rather avoid it, the Bridesmaids will be wearing sage green, but we don’t mind if guests want to wear this colour.

What will the weather be like at this time of year?

The average high in Franschhoek is 28ºC in January, which can drop to 14ºC at night.

How do I get to and from the venue?

We will be organising mini buses from Franschhoek to the venue on the day of the wedding so please let us know in the RSVP form if you would like to be booked onto this.

There will be shuttle buses running from 11:00 PM until 1:00 AM after the wedding back to Franschhoek.

Rideshare (such as Uber) is also available in the area so you can use this instead.

Where are the ceremony and the reception taking place?

Our whole wedding, including the reception, will take place at the same venue – La Roche Estate.

I have dietary restrictions/allergies. How do I let you know?

Please let us know on our RSVP form and we will do our best to accommodate you. If there’s anything more specific you want to speak to us about, please feel free to drop us a text or email us.

Can I bring a plus one?

Our wedding is strictly RSVP only. We will only be able to accommodate those listed on your invitation.

Do you have a gift registry?

The most important thing is to have you there to celebrate with us on our special day – no gifts are needed or expected.

For those who have already asked or insist, a contribution to our honeymoon fund would be greatly appreciated.

When is the RSVP deadline?

Please RSVP online by 1st September 2023.

What should I do if I or someone on the invite can’t make it?

You will be missed! If you cannot make it to the wedding, please let us know as soon as possible and RSVP “no,” so we can plan accordingly.

If not everyone in your invite can attend and you are filling in the form for other’s please be sure to write the name of the person that can’t come in the text box.

Where do you recommend I stay?

As it is a small town, you can stay just about anywhere in Franschhoek without being too far away from anything. There are numerous choices available for accommodation that can cater to different budgetary requirements.

What is the best way to get around?

If you have a car at your disposal, allow for about a 70 minute drive from Cape Town to Franschhoek, depending on traffic.

You can take an Uber or Lyft as well, which will cost you probably somewhere around R700 (approx. 30 GBP / 55 AUD ) one way. A regular taxi would charge you about twice that.

I still have questions, what is the best way to contact you?

Please feel free to email us at rachaelev@hotmail.co.uk / hainro@gmail.com or text one of us if you have any questions.
